Season five serves the dual purpose of incorporating elements of Mantic's Dreadball Xtreme into the classic Dreadball rules.
What Are this Season's Teams Like?
Season five offers four new teams (Convicts, Kalyshi, Mutants and Mechanites), the two former having first appeared in Dreadball Xtreme and the latter two being fully customizable teams.
The build-a-team aspect of the Mutants and Mechanites is one of this season's big selling points, even if it is a bit of a gimmick. The Kalyshi and Convicts have an easy transition, indeed the Convicts enjoy something of a power-up!

What Effect Does it Have on the Game?
The Kalyshi offer a good striking team, the Convicts are a potent alternative to the "run-of-the-mill" human teams such as the Corporation and Void Sirens.
The customizable Mutants and Mechanites have surprisingly little impact. The designers have erred on the side of caution in designing both teams, hopefully preventing the worst number-crunching abuses that might crop up. In doing so, these two teams are probably a little underpowered, but not enough to be unplayable.

Anything Else?
Season five includes rules for grafting mutant or mechanite body parts onto regular team members. This is probably too much book-keeping to track in a league and too easily abused in tournament, but could be fun for exhibition matches.
The vast array of weird alien life forms and robots from Dreadball Xtreme are also included as free agents, which could certainly lead to some very unusual underdog hiring.
